The Power of Networking: Why Small Business Owners Can’t Afford to Skip It!

Last week I posted a video of me attending two networking events in one day! With so much on your plate, it can be tempting to isolate yourself and focus solely on operations. But if there’s one thing you should never underestimate, it’s the power of networking.

In my eBook, “How to Pivot From Your 9-5 to Entrepreneurship,” I dedicate an entire section to the critical role networking plays in building and sustaining a successful business. That’s because, whether you’re just launching your venture or scaling to the next level, who you know can often be just as important as what you know.

Why Networking Matters

1. Access to Resources and Opportunities
Networking opens doors to opportunities you may not have even known existed. From learning about new funding options, tools, or local events, to getting introduced to potential collaborators, mentors, or clients — your network becomes a pipeline of possibilities.

2. Building a Support System
Let’s be honest — entrepreneurship can be lonely. Having a circle of people who understand the ups and downs of business ownership is not just helpful, it’s essential. A solid network offers emotional support, accountability, and encouragement on days when you need it most.

3. Boosting Your Visibility
When you show up consistently in the right circles, people start to remember your name and your business. Whether you’re networking in-person at events or online through social platforms, increasing your visibility can lead to referrals, collaborations, and sales.

How to Network Effectively

  • Be genuine. Focus on building relationships, not just collecting contacts.
  • Follow up. A single connection doesn’t mean much without nurturing the relationship over time.
  • Give before you ask. Offer value to others by sharing advice, resources, or connections.
  • Stay active. Attend industry events, join local business groups, and engage online regularly.

In “How to Pivot From Your 9-5 to Entrepreneurship,” I share practical strategies on how to network with intention and authenticity, especially when you’re just starting out and might feel a bit out of your element. Networking doesn’t have to feel intimidating — it can actually be one of the most energizing and empowering parts of your business journey.
